Core Web Vitals are a set of specific page experience metrics that Google uses as ranking signals. They measure loading performance (LCP), interactivity (INP), and visual stability (CLS).
The three Core Web Vitals are: Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) — measures how long it takes for the largest content element to load (good: under 2.5 seconds), Interaction to Next Paint (INP) — measures responsiveness when users interact with the page (good: under 200ms, replaced FID in 2024), and Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) — measures visual stability, how much the page layout shifts during loading (good: under 0.1). Core Web Vitals became a Google ranking factor in 2021. To improve them, optimize images (WebP format, lazy loading), minimize JavaScript, use efficient CSS, implement browser caching, use a CDN, and reduce server response time. Check your Core Web Vitals in Google Search Console, PageSpeed Insights, or Chrome DevTools.
